Historic fibrous plaster guidance published
Historic England has produced an interim guidance document for the care and management of fibrous plaster in the UK. It is supported by the Theatres Trust and other UK heritage bodies and professional associations.
This document is for conservation professionals and building managers responsible for buildings with fibrous plaster in the UK. Theatres Trust has been involved in both the research and drafting of the Historic England guidance as fibrous plaster is often associated with Victorian and Edwardian theatre and music hall.
The document builds on ABTT Guidance Note 20 regarding suspended fibrous plaster ceilings, cross referencing this advice note and providing supplementary information about the material.
In addition to the necessary maintenance and repair regimes associated with the care of fibrous plaster ceilings it maps the history of fibrous plaster and its use within public buildings, explains forms of deterioration, current survey standards, methods of repair and management of buildings which contain the material.
