Ruth Eastwood Bursary

In memory of our much-missed colleague and theatre-sector superstar, Theatres Trust has set up the Ruth Eastwood Bursary.

The bursary will be awarded to a theatre management professional working in their first senior leadership role in a regional theatre, who embodies Ruth’s spirit of collaboration, support of junior colleagues and passionate advocacy for regional theatre where Ruth spent most of her career.

The bursary recipient will be invited to Conference 24: Making Theatres Thrive as a guest of Theatres Trust, including travel and accommodation and the opportunity to share their reflections in a blog published by Theatres Trust.

Attending the conference will be an excellent opportunity to gain further insights, share ideas and widen the recipient’s network of contacts. However, more importantly, there will be the prestige of being recognised as following in the footsteps of Ruth Eastwood.

Eligibility

To apply you must be in your first senior leadership role within a regional theatre:

  • 3 years or less in your first senior role
  • Open to chief executives, artistic or management leads, or other members of the senior leadership team e.g. department heads
  • Working in a regional theatre building

How to apply

The application process is intended to be as light-touch as possible:

Send us either your existing CV or a link to your LinkedIn profile so we can see your career history and answer the following two questions:

  1. Tell us how you embody Ruth Eastwood’s spirit of collaboration, supportiveness and passion for regional theatre. Maximum 300 words.
  2. What is your superpower? This was an ice-breaker that Ruth loved to ask – hers was singing ‘How much is that doggy in the window’ backwards. (Maximum 50 words)

Email you application to events@theatrestrust.org.uk marked Ruth Eastwood Bursary by noon on Tuesday 10 September.

How the scheme will be assessed

Applications will be assessed by senior staff members of Theatres Trust who worked with Ruth Eastwood. Ruth’s partner Roger McCann will help select the overall winner from the shortlist.

We will notify all applicants of the decision no later than 30 September.
