Theatres Trust welcomes Boardroom Apprentice Sarah Avery
We are delighted that Sarah Avery is joining us through the scheme that widens the diversity on boards.
To increase the diversity and breadth of experience of our board, Theatres Trust signed up as Host Board for the Boardroom Apprentice scheme in its pilot year in 2023 and found it so beneficial that we have continued to take part each year.
We were pleased to be matched with Sarah Avery, who will be joining our board and related committees throughout 2025. Sarah has a background in the Law and financial complains. She currently works a public servant in the sphere of International Trade.
Sarah says “Theatre has always been part of my life, being close to pursuing a career in lighting design before deciding to move into the Law. As such, I recognise the importance of having a creative outlet and access to the theatre in all communities. Theatre is a source of social good, promoting wellbeing and confidence in its performers with the opportunity for individuals to come together to share a meaningful experience. Theatres Trust’s commitment to providing access to theatres across all groups and their promotion of inclusivity speak to my own feelings around the theatre community, and their recognition of the need for diversity on their own Board gives me reassurance around their dedication to taking on a range of viewpoints. Stepping into this sphere, to support a relatively small but clearly passionate organisation and help shape their approach at a time of change and against the backdrop of issues being faced is a exciting opportunity to make a real impact.”
Sarah’s year at Theatres Trust is supported through the Boardroom Apprentice scheme, which is funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
