Theatres Trust provides update on Burnley Empire Viability Study

The second phase of a Viability Study for the Burnley Empire theatre is well underway. The report from the study is due early summer. Burnley Empire is on our Theatres at Risk register 2016.

The report will outline the opportunities identified for the important Grade II listed theatre and will identify a clear route for the building’s restoration. The report builds on the conclusions from the phase 1 study which was completed in November 2016.

The Viability Study was commissioned by a stakeholder group which includes Burnley Empire Theatre Trust (BETT), Burnley Borough Council, University of Central Lancashire and Theatres Trust.

This second phase of works has been funded through a grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund and monies raised by BETT. The phase 1 study was jointly funded by Burnley Borough Council and Theatres Trust.
