Civic Trust Awards 2023

We are pleased to see a number of theatres and performance spaces recognised at the 2023 Civic Trust Awards for their positive social, cultural, environmental, or economic benefit to their local communities.

Congratulations to the following projects:

  • Fire Station Sunderland by Flanagan Lawrence for the extension of the original 1907 fire station with a 450-seat live performance space, the heart of the cultural transformation of Sunderland city centre.
  • Jacksons Lane by Citizens Design Bureau for the refurbishment and remodelling of the north London arts centre housed in a Grade II listed former methodist church.
  • The Malthouse Theatre at The King's School Canterbury by Tim Ronalds Architects, for the conversion of a 19th-century malt house into a theatre.
  • The transformation of Playhouse Theatre, London by Carmody Groarke and Charcoalblue into the Kit Kat Club for an immersive in-the-round experience of Cabaret.
