Ten theatres awarded funding to improve accessibility and viability
Theatres Trust is pleased to support 10 theatres across the UK with £49k through our Small Grants Programme in partnership with The Linbury Trust.
Projects funded in this round of grants focus on improving theatres’ accessibility as well as urgent repairs and maintenance works, all of which are essential to the ongoing viability of the nation’s theatres, and which will help create better, more welcoming spaces.
Accessibility
York Theatre Royal will buy equipment to capture immersive recordings of live performances and will deliver them using virtual reality technology. Bracknell’s South Hill Park Arts Centre, Malvern Cube Community and Arts Centre, and The Space on the Isle of Dogs have been awarded funding to improve front of house accessibility. The Y Theatre in Leicester will use the funding to address accessibility issues backstage.
Urgent repairs and maintenance
Northern Stage will install innovative sustainable panels in its foyer to reduce general noise levels. The Derry Playhouse will refurbish its bathroom facilities. Dundee Rep Theatre will replace ventilation in its studio. Theatre Royal Wakefield will install CCTV and Plaza Theatre Romsey will replace its electrical distribution board.
Thanks to our funders
The Small Grants Programme was launched thanks to the generous support of The Linbury Trust, as well as donations from Judy Craymer CBE and Charles Michael Holloway Charitable Trust.
In February 2022, The Linbury Trust committed to funding the scheme for a further three years, with funding totalling £300,000.
