Indoor performances delayed
Following a rise in Covid-19 infection rates in parts of the UK, the Prime Minister has announced that indoor performances will not resume on 1 August.
He also said that pilot performances will also no longer be taking place.
He has said that changes will not be implemented for at least another two weeks and will be conditional on evidence that the spread of the virus has slowed down again.
Theatres Trust Director Jon Morgan responds:
It is disappointing that socially-distanced indoor performances will not be able to go ahead tomorrow. However in reality the majority of theatres were not planning to reopen for shows tomorrow so a two-week delay will not make a huge difference. Most theatres will not be able to put on productions until we reach Stage 5, which allows fuller audiences, so that is the most critical date for much of the sector.
